Hanover Habitat ReStore Driver/Mover

Position: Hanover Habitat Truck Driver/Mover

Description: This position is responsible for the pick-up of merchandise from donors, safely packing the merchandise in the ReStore truck and trailer, returning to ReStore and unpacking merchandise.

Employee Status: Non-exempt, hourly at 35-40 hours per week

General Duties:

  • Drive company vehicle for the purpose of residential and business donation pickups
  • Unload donations from company truck after donor pickups
  • Screen for product usability, donation compliance and acceptance standards.
  • Load and unload materials from customer donations and purchases from/to private vehicles in a safe and effective manner.
  • Distribution of donation receipts, information and/or marketing materials
  • Position and reposition saleable materials on the sales floor, maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly sales floor.
  • Use hand jacks and hand trucks to move heavier items and pallets
  • Daily cleaning and straightening of ReStore loading and unloading area, keeping it safe, and orderly.
  • Supervising volunteers, making their experience meaningful.
  • Respond to customer and donor inquiries, providing outstanding service to customers and donors.
  • Within the scope of Hanover Habitat’s mission and operation policies, understand the needs of donors, customers, volunteers, and staff and respond to them in an efficient, courteous and respectful manner.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Hanover Habitat’s goals, mission, philosophy and policies and demonstrate this understanding in daily interactions.
  • Maintain effective and professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, customers and donors and the public.
  • Other duties as assigned by the ReStore Manager

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check
  • Must be available Saturdays
  • Able to lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk extended periods of time without break.
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Excellent customer service skills, friendly, and outgoing personality.
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Willingness to work with volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Desire to work with diverse staff and customer base

Construction Assistant

Description: This part time position helps Habitat out on construction, assisting our construction supervisor and helping lead our volunteer labor.  This position also helps coordinate sub contractors, works with Habitat homebuyers, and plays a critical role in fulfilling our mission.

Requirements: High School education, experience in residential construction, strong interpersonal and communication skills. Class A Contractor license not required, but possibility exists to advance to that level in the future.

Weekly Hours: Hourly position, part-time Hours will be flexible and require work on Thursday - Saturday

Assists Director of Construction with the following:

Planning for Construction for Habitat Homes

  • Assure that Habitat has the necessary tools for construction and that they are well maintained
  • Help to obtain certificates of insurance from all contractors
  • Assist homebuyer with materials selection where needed
  • Attend meetings with Family Services, Homebuyer and Lender when needed

Management of Materials & Tools

  • Inventory & check quality of materials delivered to site and return rejects
  • Remove all tools and materials from site at end of project

Supervise Volunteers and Sub-Contractors

  • Coordinate the work of volunteers and sub-contractors
  • Teach volunteers how to complete the necessary tasks
  • Involve the future homebuyers in the construction process; team with regular volunteers
  • Assure that all work done is high quality and completed in a timely manner

Inspections

  • Call and schedule the appropriate inspections of the project
  • Be present for inspections as needed
  • Ensure that all punch list items are completed correctly and in a timely manner
  • Train new homebuyers on routine home maintenance

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly staff meetings on behalf of construction staff
  • Act as liaison between construction, Director of Family Services and Director of Community Engagement
