FULL TIME ReStore Driver/Customer Service Representative

Position Description:
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, household items, appliances, and building materials to the public at greatly discounted prices.  This is a full-time position, with benefits as a Driver to do donation pick-up and deliveries in our non-CDL box truck in Hanover, Virginia and surrounding communities.

Duties:

  • Pick-up and deliver donations, using Habitat for Humanity vehicles
  • Train and supervise volunteer helpers
  • Assist in developing and adhering to criteria for donated materials
  • Assist in developing driving and warehouse safety standards, and communicate and train volunteers in these practices
  • Help maintain organization and cleanliness in the ReStore
  • Assist in keeping trucks well maintained and clean, minor repairs as needed
  • Load and unload customer purchases and donations
  • Assist customers within the ReStore
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License, good driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand, squat, bend, and climb in/out of truck on a regular basis
  • Knowledge of furniture moving techniques helpful
  • Experience driving a box truck helpful
  • Dependable, motivated, and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to relate well to a variety of people
  • Excellent customer service skills, friendly and outgoing personality
  • Interest in working with a fast-paced nonprofit making a difference in our community
  • Retail, service, and/or moving experience helpful

**Must be able to work Fridays & Saturdays, no work on Sundays or evenings

Hanover Habitat ReStore Sales Associate

Position Description:
The ReStore Sales associate works to ensure that customers and donors have a positive experience at the ReStore, assist with ReStore volunteers and reach out to new customers and donors. This includes providing friendly customer service, assisting in loading purchases and unloading and processing donations, operating the cash register, cleaning/organizing/arranging displays, pricing items, communicating effectively with volunteers and assisting with community outreach activities.

Duties:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers by providing high-quality customer service
  • Answer customer questions regarding the ReStore in general and specific items
  • Orient, train and guide volunteers
  • Guard against theft and unsafe practices (clutter, tripping hazards, falling objects, etc.)
  • Maintain orderly and clean work area
  • Operate cash register to ring up customers and reconcile cash drawer
  • Develop merchandise displays
  • Straighten and clean displays, restocking out of place items.
  • Clean store and merchandise
  • Move materials from warehouse to store floor
  • Work to evaluate condition/acceptability of incoming donations
  • Price materials to be sold
  • Process donations and display items in a way that maximizes sales
  • Ensure that all areas of the store/warehouse are safe, clean, and organized
  • Work to continually improve overall appearance of our facility and maximize our efficiency
  • When requested, assist the driver when picking up material from donor.
  • When requested, drive the truck and pick up material from donors.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Great track record of providing excellent customer service
  • Willingness to work with volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Desire to work with diverse staff and customer base
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • 2 years Experience working in a retail store

Construction Assistant

Position Description:

Assists Director of Construction with the following:

Planning for Construction for Habitat Homes

  • Assure that Habitat has the necessary tools for construction and that they are well maintained
  • Help to obtain certificates of insurance from all contractors
  • Assist homebuyer with materials selection where needed
  • Attend meetings with Family Services, Homebuyer and Lender when needed

Management of Materials & Tools

  • Inventory & check quality of materials delivered to site and return rejects
  • Remove all tools and materials from site at end of project

Supervise Volunteers and Sub-Contractors

  • Coordinate the work of volunteers and sub-contractors
  • Teach volunteers how to complete the necessary tasks
  • Involve the future homebuyers in the construction process; team with regular volunteers
  • Assure that all work done is high quality and completed in a timely manner

Inspections

  • Call and schedule the appropriate inspections of the project
  • Be present for inspections as needed
  • Ensure that all punch list items are completed correctly and in a timely manner
  • Train new homebuyers on routine home maintenance

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly staff meetings on behalf of construction staff
  • Act as liaison between construction, Director of Family Services and Director of Community Engagement

Reports to: Director of Construction

Requirements:

High School education, experience in residential construction, strong interpersonal and communication skills. Class A Contractor license not required, but possibility exists to advance to that level in the future.

Weekly Hours: Hourly position, with part-time hours.  Required work on Thursday, Friday & Saturday
