Become a Covenant Church

The Covenant Church Program invites congregations of all faiths and denominations to  reduce the number of Hanover families living in substandard housing.

Would your congregation enjoy the opportunity to work in partnership with the community to build decent, affordable homes? Perhaps there are already people in your congregation supporting Hanover Habitat.

Hanover Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that is guided by Christian ideals to help our neighbors in need by providing low-cost homeownership solution for families living in inadequate or unaffordable housing. We've helped answer the prayers for 35 families and counting! As the faith community and Hanover Habitat are natural allies in this mission, we recently developed a Covenant Church Program to reach out to churches and ask them to engage through prayer, volunteer service, and monetary donations.

What is the Covenant Church Program?

It is a commitment between a congregation and Hanover Habitat for Humanity, similar to an individual's pledge to the church, forming a partnership to build simple, decent houses with those in need.  We aim to build new relationships, a sense of community, and new homes.

What commitment does a Covenant Church make?

A Covenant Church commits to just three things:

  1. To Pray for us. Congregations may choose to pray privately or as a congregation for Hanover Habitat and our Partner Families. There are also opportunities to lead a devotion or prayer at construction sites, home dedications, workshops and other events.
  2. To Serve with us. Congregations can volunteer in whatever capacity best suits them.  We have many volunteer needs and opportunities in our office, ReStore, Can Recycling Program, and on the construction site.
  3. To Donate to our mission.  Congregations agree to make a financial gift, of any size.  Even the smallest financial contribution can truly change a life.

How does the Covenant Church Program benefit churches?

Becoming a Covenant Church is a great way to take action in support of God's mission to provide housing for all of mankind, through supporting Hanover Habitat's mission to provide low income families with decent, affordable homes.  It also gives your congregation a chance to develop a strong, lasting partnership with Hanover Habitat, allowing church members to express their faith through practical "hands on" service.
