Volunteering with Hanover Habitat is a great way to get involved in your community and make new friends. Hanover Habitat brings together individuals and groups from all backgrounds to work to ensure that all families in need have a decent, affordable home.

By utilizing volunteer labor in as many ways as possible, Hanover Habitat keeps our overhead low, allowing us to put more of our financial resources towards building affordable homes for deserving families in Hanover County.

Group Opportunities

Corporate & Committee Events Sponsor groups (groups that raise the money to build the homes) always have the right of first refusal for volunteer days on the jobsite, but rarely schedule volunteers every work day. This allows us to provide hands-on team building opportunities with you and your group on some construction tasks. Just call or email us to discuss options.

Individual Opportunities

Family Advocates

If you're interested in mentoring a Partner Family as they work towards home-ownership, then consider becoming a Family Advocate! Advocates build a relationship with the family, and while generally requiring just a couple hours a month, this volunteer position is one of the most important aspects of the success of the Partner Families. Occasional Construction Volunteers

For those only able to commit for a day, you can check for immediate openings on our construction calendar. Register online for any event with a quick sign-up link!

Mid-Week Crew

Want to fine tune your carpentry, plumbing, or electrical skills? Ever wonder who is doing all the detailed work on these homes? It's our VIP Midweek Volunteers and they're looking for reinforcements on a weekly or bi-weekly basis! You can find out where they are working by clicking on the Construction Calendar. Recycling Crew

Affectionately known as "The Junk Guys", Habitat has a crew of 3 retired enthusiasts who earn close to $20,000 for Habitat each year by keeping recyclables out of the landfill! Check out our article here about opportunities to volunteer with our Recycling Crew. Volunteer days are usually Tuesdays or Wednesdays, from about 9AM-3PM.

The ReStore

Our ReStore needs volunteers to help with customer service and processing donations. The Store sells new and used building materials donated by the local community. Proceeds go towards the construction of Habitat homes in Hanover County. We especially need volunteers who can regularly lift heavy merchandise. Many vacancies! 2-4 hour commitment on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis in a fun, laid-back work environment. Interested?
